Alvaro De la Mora is our Ph.D. candidate, at the School of Environmental Sciences (SES), under the supervision of Dr. Ernesto Guzman. Alvaro started his work in the fall of 2020 and his research focuses on a selective breeding program for Low Varroa population Growth (LVG) to reduce the prevalence and negative impact of the mite Varroa destructor, which is the main biotic stressor of honey bees, and is responsible for high losses of colonies in Ontario and worldwide.
