Propolis, also known as ‘bee glue’, is the result of an accumulation of resinous substance gathered by bees from various types of plants. The word propolis is derived from the Greek language, with ‘pro’ meaning defense and ‘polis’ meaning city or community. In ancient Egypt, propolis was widely used for embalming. During the World War II, it was renowned for helping with wound healing.
Propolis contains the antioxidants polyphenols which fight diseases and damage in the body. It also exhibits antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. Prevalently used in wound healing, propolis is a popular remedy for coughs and sore throats as well. Recent research reveals that propolis is also highly beneficial for gastrointestinal disorders, allergies, and gynecological, oral, and dermatological problems. According to a study, propolis significantly decreases the number of bacteria in the saliva of people, and hence became a useful ingredient in dental care products.
Did you know that applying topical propolis three times a day helps heal cold sores faster than standard treatments? We recommend doing a test with a small amount of proplis to see how you react to. For use in the mouth, dilute two drops of propolis in a glass of water. Rinse the mouth for two minutes before spitting it out.
We offer 45g propolis honey jars and 30ml propolis tincture dropper or spray bottles at the HBRC. All our products are available for purchase on shophbrc.com.
