Kate Petreny has been volunteering with the Honey Bee Research Centre since May 2022. When she retired, she was looking for a new interest and found apiculture. She then watched our YouTube videos (all of them!), took OBA courses, and participated in our online “Introduction to Beekeeping” course. Once she had exhausted all the learning she could do on her own, she wanted to volunteer with the HBRC. However, before she had the chance to apply, she was asked to volunteer by Paul and gladly accepted.
Kate has been an amazing help over the past two years with supering, brood inspections, queen rearing, candle making, and putting smiles on everyone’s faces! Her favorite part of working at the HBRC is being able to assess what’s going on in the hive and problem solve as a group. Kate attributes the success of her own hives to the knowledge she has gained from volunteering at the HBRC. We are so glad to have Kate join our team and be such a positive influence on everyone she works with! Thank you for all the work you have done!
