Student Volunteers | Summer/Fall 2024

We welcome student volunteers to our centre to take part in our activities and learn more about bees and beekeeping through hands-on experience. All our student volunteers are undergraduates who have taken our Introductory Apiculture course at the university and found a passion for bees!

This past summer, we had five students volunteer with us.

  1. Bruno is a student in Zoology at the University and is interested in veterinary medicine and plans to apply to the Ontario Veterinary College this year.
  2. Sasha is a student in Biological Sciences and is interested in research and is looking to pursue a master’s degree.
  3. Johann started beekeeping at the age of 11!
  4. Jonathan is an Environmental Science student and is the president of the University of Guelph Apiculture club.
  5. Noah is a Biological Science student and is fascinated by invertebrate biology and plans to pursue a graduate degree in entomology.

This fall, we welcomed three new student volunteers.

  1. Gavin is an Agricultural Business student who has bees of his own and spent the summer working for Jim Coneybeare, a commercial beekeeper and former president of the Ontario Beekeepers’ Association.
  2. Janna is a student in Biodiversity and spent the summer working for former HBRC employee, Les Eccles, at Chatsworth Honey.
  3. Matthew is a student in Agricultural Science who has his own bees and took our spring weekend course this April.
