By Paul Kelly, Manager, Honey Bee Research Centre
As many of you know, we’ve been eagerly anticipating the opening of our new facility, near Stone Rd and Victoria Rd. While we had hoped to welcome visitors to the new site sooner, I wanted to share an update with our supporters and the broader community.
We officially received occupancy for the new building on Monday, May 26. This is an exciting and significant milestone that allows us to begin moving into the space. However, since we are currently in the middle of a busy beekeeping season, we’ll be moving in stages. Over the coming year, our team will continue to work out of both our current location and the new facility.
We’ve heard from many of you – local beekeepers, students, alumni, researchers, and community members – who are excited to visit and explore the new centre. Your enthusiasm means a lot to us. While we aren’t quite ready to open the doors to the public just yet, please know that there’s still a lot of important work happening behind the scenes. Our research and outreach efforts remain in full swing, and the new space is already supporting that work in meaningful ways.
We’re now setting our sights on a public opening celebration in June 2026. We look forward to officially unveiling the centre at that time and sharing this beautiful new space with all of you.
In the meantime, if you’re curious about what the new centre looks like, we’ve put together a virtual tour video that gives a glimpse of the new facility and its potential. You can watch it here.
Thank you for your continued interest and support. We can’t wait to welcome you in person next summer!
