Approximately 15 years ago, we were contacted by Jamie Burns, a former student of our weekend beekeeping course. Jamie was deeply intrigued by what he learned about our research and education centre. His fascination with honey bees, along with their many captivating stories inspired him to offer his financial support.
Over the years, Jamie’s generosity grew to the point where his contributions allowed us to employ highly skilled research staff, significantly advancing our research program, something that would not have been possible without his support. His encouragement and belief in our team gave us the confidence to take on larger and more ambitious projects.
Our connection with Jamie also led to a valuable partnership with the University of Guelph’s Alumni Affairs team, which has greatly benefited several other initiatives, including our new building project. We are proud to share that Jamie has also contributed to the construction of this new facility, and in recognition of his enduring support, one of the rooms will bear his name.
Jamie’s impact on our work has proved that one individual’s passion and commitment can make a lasting difference for honey bee research and education.
