Beeswax Candle | Fall 2023

When worker bees have completed their nursing duties, typically between 12 to 18 days old, they will make beeswax! This is done by secreting small wax flakes from glands on their abdomen. Once secreted, the flakes are softened and then shaped into hexagonal cells used to store food and raise brood.

We harvest most of our beeswax from cappings, the top layer of wax used by honey bees to seal their honey. These are removed during honey extraction.

Beeswax can be used to make a variety of products, including beeswax candles. When burned, they have a pleasant aroma and last much longer than paraffin. Now that the outdoor beekeeping work is completed, we have been busy making candles and other beeswax products. We have a wide variety of candles available, ranging in shape and size from small pinecones to large birthday cakes. Be sure to check out our website or stop by our store to see our candle selection!
